Nose Words, #6: Interview with Mythos Mixtures

Comments
I would say that if any one scent influenced me, it would be a simple bottle of perfume oil I purchased at our local Renaissance Faire when I was very young. It was called "Night Queen" and the company that made it no longer exists, but that little bottle of perfume was so special to me. When I smelled it, I was reminded of faraway places and fantasy creatures like elves and fairies. It was magical to me and every time I put it on, I felt special. My goal in making scents now is to capture that same feeling in different ways. I want every scent to bring about certain images and feelings.

— Brianne, Mythos Mixtures

This week's Nose Words is a sheepishly belated posting of an interview with David and Brianne from their Kansas-based perfumery, Mythos Mixtures. These two are fabulous rock stars in the indie perfumery world and have a wonderful knack for turning all kinds of mythology into... well... mixtures. With some of the recent Halloween Limited Editions being released and their Sleepy Hallowe'en being my favorite fall fragrance ever, I thought now was as good a time as any to post this. Better late than never, eh? ;) Read the rest of the interview after the jump.

Interview with Loreto Aromatica

Comments
I really did mean to post this interview last week, but with my birthday in the middle of the week (which ensued endless hours on the phone with family & friends and a birthday concert on Friday), plus everything else that I ordinarily have going on, I just didn't get to it. And Loreto needs little introduction, but this perfumer from San Francisco is emerging as one of my favorites. I have been wearing Yellow Rose nearly non-stop since we traded samples awhile back, and the aldehyde/bright rosey floral is stunning. (Take that, Chanel No. 5.) Not to mention, Loreto is highly skilled - or so I've heard - at bespoke perfumery, and has a penchant for all-natural perfumes. Read on to learn more about her, her work, and her inspirations. Interview with Lulu Beauty

Comments

I'm pleased as punch that our first interview is with the very talented Julie Wray of Lulu Beauty. In addition to maintaining her own line, she has an adorable accessories/clothing/consignment shop in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood (just down the street from the troll, in fact) called Show Pony. Let me shamelessly plug for a second that she carries Sweet Anthem perfumes in her store, and that I hope we get to collaborate on some ideas in the future!

Lulu Beauty sells not only perfume oils, but lip gloss, or, as Julie calls them, Lip Lusters. Click here to read the full Q&A!

(Also, feel free to suggest a title for this section -- either here or via Twitter!)
